FORT SCOTT, Kan. - The Independence Volleyball team will end their first weekend of 2025 with a 1-3 record as they dropped a pair of matches on Saturday to Metropolitan CC and Dallas College - Brookhaven.
In the first match of the day, the Pirates dropped the first two sets, 12-25 and 21-25, before bouncing back to prolong the match by taking the third set 27-25. Metro CC was able to take the next set to seal the win in four. A pair of Kansas freshman made their mark early in their college careers as Hailee Townsend had 11 kills, and Ary Rodriguez had three service aces. On the defensive side, Sophia Reyes had 20 digs. Setter Serrena Hernandez had 20 assists in the loss.
Match two of the day was a back and forth affair with Dallas College - Brookhaven as the two teams traded set victories, sending the match to a fifth and final decisive set. Brookhaven was able to pull out the fifth set, 12-15 to take home the win. Indy won sets two and four, 25-19 and 25-20 respectively. Ary Rodriguez added another five service aces, while Hernandez had another 18 assists. Idaho native, Alyssa Trane led the way with 19 kills, while Reyes had another great game defensively with 19 digs.
The Pirates will now shift their focus to their home opener, Wednesday against Rose State College, set to start at 6:30 PM.
