Pirates held off the scoreboard in Iowa

FORT DODGE, Iowa - The Independence Football team fell to Iowa Central on a snowy Saturday afternoon, 30-0 to move their overall record to 4-6 on the season.

The weather conditions played a factor in the Pirates struggling to get any offense going, as they ended the day with 145 yards of total offense.

The Indy defense battled in the first half, surrendering just one touchdown and a short field goal as the Pirates trailed 10-0 at the half.

Iowa Central immediately broke the game open to begin the second half, as they took the opening kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown to push their lead to 17. The Tritons were able to punch it in the end zone two more times in the second half, as the Pirates were able to drive the ball into Tritons territory a few times in the second half, but ultimately came up empty.

On a day where moving the ball through the air was a challenge, quarterback Nathan Neal finished the day 9 of 22 for 46 yards and one interception.

Indy was able to find a bit of success on the ground, as a team they fell just short of 100 yards, as they finished with 99, led by Jimarion Guyton who carried it 10 times for 40 yards. Makenntis Adams and Ivan Johnson added 30 yards and 24 yards respectively.

The Pirates leading receiver was Kedan Johnson who made two grabs for 25 yards.

Defensively, DeShunDredrick Johnson led the way with four total tackles including a sack. Roman Kupu and Emmanuel Peter each added a solo sack of their own, while Nasir Hudson and Kaleb Cain combined for a sack as well.

The Pirates now gear up for the final regular season game of the year, as they host nationally ranked, and Montgomery County rival, Coffeyville, next Saturday, under the lights at 6:00 pm.
