INDEPENDENCE, Kan. - Seattle Seahawks linebacker Tyrice Knight is gearing up for the biggest football game of his life this Sunday, as his Seahawks square off with the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LX in Santa Clara, California. Knight's journey began right here in the blue and gold of an ICC Pirates jersey, as he progressed from a first year redshirt, to a NCAA Division I standout, to a fourth round NFL Draft pick in 2024.
Knight attended ICC from 2018-2019, where he starred on the field for the Pirates in the fall of 2019. Current ICC Head Coach Keith Donerson worked closely with Knight as he was the defensive coordinator during that two year stretch. "Tyrice was the perfect example of a JUCO product who bet on himself and knew exactly what it took to reach his goals," said Donerson. "He was a strong student, a leader, and as our middle linebacker, was a coach out on the field."
The Lakeland, Florida native appeared in 10 games for the Pirates in 2019, and was second on the team in tackles with 59. Knight also recorded four tackles for loss, four pass break ups, five interceptions and two touchdowns. Knight's best game in a Pirate uniform came in a victory over Butler, where he had two interceptions and a touchdown. Knight graduated from ICC in the winter of 2019.
Knight's 2019 season was enough to catch the eye of the University of Texas-El Paso, where over his next four seasons with the Miners he would record 391 tackles, 33.5 tackles for loss, and 8.5 sacks. Knight saved his best for his Senior season where he totaled 140 tackles, 15.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks on the way to being named Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year.
The Seattle Seahawks selected Knight in the fourth round of the 2024 draft, where in two years he has been a key piece of Head Coach Mike Macdonald's top ranked defense. In the 2025 season, Knight has recorded 57 tackles, two sacks, and two forced fumbles for the NFC champion Seahawks.
"Tyrice's journey from ICC to the biggest stage in football is exactly what we hope for in our players," said Donerson "His biggest goal was to make his mother proud, and through his dedication, leadership, and performance he acheived that."
Knight and the Seahawks will take on the New England Patriots on Sunday, at 5:30 pm CT.
