COFFEYVILLE, Kan. - The Independence Women’s Basketball team suffered their third straight loss Saturday afternoon, as another tough day offensively led to a 62-29 defeat at the hands off #24 Coffeyville.
It was another tough day shooting for the Lady Pirates as they only made nine field goals on 49 shots, good for only 18%, including 0-13 from the three point line and 42% from the free throw line. Indy did a good job of attacking the basket, getting to the charity stripe 26 times, but only cashed in 11 of those opportunities.
Meanwhile, the Red Ravens shot it a slightly better clip, going 19-63 from the field, good for 30%. The Red Ravens dominated on the glass, outrebounding the Pirates 58-36 with 22 offensive rebounds to create second chance opportunities. The Red Ravens also had 21 points off of 24 Pirate turnovers to help jump out to, and maintain their large lead.
The Pirates were outscored in all four quarters, although the second half was much more competitive as they were slightly outscored in the final two frames 25-17.
Nyah Chandler was the only Pirate to score in double figures, as she led the team with 10, and also added in a team high seven rebounds. Danaiya Stillwell-Smith pitched in with seven points and four rebounds and had two blocks on the defensive end.
