INDEPENDENCE, Kan. - The Independence Women’s Basketball team is still in search of their first conference win as they fell Saturday afternoon to Pratt 83-61 in KJCCC action.
The Beavers shot the ball extremely well for much of the night, as they bested the Pirates from the field, the three point line, and the free throw line. The Pirates shot 32% from the field compared to the Beavers 50%, 20% from three to the Beavers 39%, and were only able to cash in 56% of their free throws while the Beavers finished a perfect 8-8.
The Pirates did have a slight edge on the glass, outrebounding the Beavers 45-40, while both teams committed 21 turnovers on the day.
The Beavers were ultimately able to dominate points in the paint 48-30, playing a large factor in the victory.
The Pirates were able to finish the game on a high note, winning the fourth quarter 17-11.
Danaiya Stillwell-Smith led the way for the Pirates tonight with her first career double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds. Nyah Chandler also finished in double figures off the bench with 12.
The Pirates will get right back to action next week, as they will make the long trip to Goodland, Kansas to take on Fort Hays Tech Northwest on Wednesday.
