INDEPENDENCE, Kan. - The Independence Women’s Basketball team struggled with the tenacious Garden Valley defense for much of the night as they fell 80-32 to the visiting Broncbusters Saturday afternoon.
The Pirates offensive troubles began from the jump as their only points in the first quarter came at the free throw line, as they immediately found themselves down by ten after one period. The Broncbusters were relentless on the defensive end as they turned 39 Pirate turnovers into half of their 80 points, while the Pirates were only able to capitalize with five points on 21 Garden City turnovers.
The Pirates finished the night shooting 24% from the field and 18% from deep, as the Broncbusters led wire to wire with their largest lead being the final deficit of 48.
Ra’Nyah Tillman had a nice game in her first career start notching a team high eight points and five rebounds. Jade Oliney had a contribution off the bench as she finished with four points, a pair of rebounds, and a pair of assists, while Jada Walton wrecked havoc on defense once again with a game high three steals.
The Pirates, now 4-8 (1-5) will shift their focus to next week as they will travel to take on Butler CC on Wednesday, their final game before the holiday break.
