Tough shooting day leads to fifth straight loss for Indy Women

GREAT BEND, Kan. - The Independence Women’s Basketball team could never find their groove offensively, as a 23% shooting day led to a 74-40 loss at Barton on Saturday afternoon.

After Indy scored the first bucket of the game Barton rattled off 13 unanswered points to quickly grab a double digit lead and never looked back.

The Cougars closed the half on a 15-2 run to take a 21-point lead into the halftime locker room.

Barton kept their foot on the gas in the second half, outscoring the Lady Pirates 34-21 for the 34 point win.

Indy just could never get their shots to fall, as they finished 15-64 from the field, including an 18% shooting clip from the three, and a season worst 26% from the free throw line. Independence also lost the rebounding battle 63-40 and surrendered 40 points in the paint.

Nyah Chandler and Jade Oliney each finished with seven points to lead Independence, while Danaiya Stillwell-Smith pulled down 10 rebounds and had four steals.

The Lady Pirates will now gear up for their penultimate home game, as they host Cowley on Wednesday. Cowley defeated Independence 81-46 back on January 10th.
